In November of 2007, a team of dedicated volleyball coaches and volunteers met to discuss ways to better improve competitive volleyball in our area. Their goal was to start a club volleyball team for girls on the Grand Strand. After an overwhelming turnout for the team tryouts, Grand Strand Juniors was born as a not for profit program competing in the Palmetto Volleyball Region. Three travel teams and two training teams totaling over 60 girls were formed with the goal of participating in tournaments across South Carolina. In 2010, the start of our fourth season, we have grown to 12 travel teams and one training team with over 140 young women participating. We have changed the face of volleyball in our area and impacted the youth in a positive way.
We are still up and running strong and the progress our program has made is incredible. Volleyball in the area has prospered greatly and we are excited to send at least six seniors to college in 2011 on volleyball scholarships. We also had the opportunity to host a season opening tournament this year at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. 144 teams competed from South Carolina and six neighboring states!! After four short years, Grand Strand Juniors is now competing with some of the best teams in the state. Colleges are looking at our program for recruiting and our top players are receiving scholarships to play at the next level. We have also helped to drive community commerce by hosting the tournament and bringing in over one million dollars in revenue to local businesses in the month of January.
This season, the Grand Strand Juniors 18 National team is traveling to Baltimore, MD to compete in the Asics Northeast Qualifiers. Our team is currently ranked fourth in the state and plans to represent volleyball for not only Grand Strand Juniors, but also the state of South Carolina.
In order to travel and play in Baltimore, we need to raise money to help offset tournament fees and traveling expenses. We are seeking financial donations and we are asking you to help us get there!
